Unless parents, children, and Roblox are doing their part (and likely even then), malicious actors will always be able to circumvent the system SOMEHOW. But Roblox is a tempting target because of its success, just like YouTube kids and all sorts of other platforms that sick people have exploited. Roblox DOES need to continue and strengthen its moderation efforts across the board. It's not easy for parents, I can sympathize. That said, if this inspires parents to monitor their kids' online time more carefully and hopefully to proactively work with their kids to be safer on the internet, then yes, this would serve a valuable public service.
And it's so targeted that none of us would probably have the first clue of where to find the people doing this on any of those platforms. You can (unfortunately) imagine this sort of thing on any social media platform that kids are on. But it's also actually a really hard problem to solve. Roblox has blocked the key words like "condo" (and certainly done more behind the scenes that they won't reveal publicly). The rooms last for an hour max, because Roblox does its best to squash them and the perpetrators know they can't get away with it for too long. Roblox is not simply ignoring the problem to cackle and count their money. But the BBC acknowledges in the article that Roblox IS addressing it. OMG SEX AND CHILDREN?!?! And it is that, and that is a clear problem that needs to be addressed. But I can say that this reporting feels more designed to draw the attention and ire (and clicks) of the audience of the BBC.
